The police have arrested a woman on charges of torturing a sixth-standard student. The arrestee happens to be the victim’s second mother and is also an Asha worker of Chittattukara grama panchayath in Ernakulam. The arrest follows after the girl revealed her ordeal to the school authorities after some teachers expressed doubts about some marks on her body. 

According to police, Ramya, the arrestee, used to beat the child regularly. She also tortured the girl mentally and physically. The girl, it’s said, was forced to eat excrement and drink urine. 

“As per the statement given by the child to the school authorities her second mother treated her very badly. She was forced to eat excrement and was tricked to drink urine under the guise of drinking water. Also, the accused is said to have beat her with an iron rod,” said a police official. 

It is learned that upon the child’s revelations, the school authorities informed the child line and they, in turn, alerted the police. 

Remya has been remanded and is currently lodged at Kakkanad jail. 

According to local reports, the child’s father is an alcoholic and his relationship with Remya forced their biological mother to estrange him. 

The victim also has an elder sister and is also suspected to have undergone a similar fate.
