The Tamil Nadu unit of the Congress party has demanded the resignation of Union home minister, Amit Shah on the “ illegal surveillance” conducted by the Israeli company NSO’s spyware Pegasus on political leaders, journalists, human rights activists, ministers, judiciary, and other prominent persons in the country.
Speaking to reporters at Chidambaram, the Tamil Nadu state Congress Committee president, K.S.Alagiri said that the Union home minister has compromised “national security” and has no moral right to continue in office.
He also demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi submit a white paper in Parliament on the illegal surveillance conducted by the Israeli spyware Pegasus on the prominent persons in India.
The Congress leader said that as the Israeli company, NSO has clarified that it provides the data only to the governments, it has become clear that the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister had colluded together in getting spying on political leaders and journalists.
The TNCC also demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the snooping issue. K.S.Alagiri charged that three agencies of the Country, the Intelligence Bureau( IB), the Research and Analysis Wing(RA&W), and the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) was kept in the dark during the snooping issue.
The Congress leader said that these three agencies were reporting to the Prime Minister on a day-to-day basis.
K.S.Alagiri asked the Prime Minister how he can guarantee security to the people of the country if illegal surveillance was taking place unabated. He also said that the TNCC would take out a protest march to the Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan on Thursday against the “illegal surveillance” and snooping incidents by the Israeli company.
The Tamil Nadu Congress leader also said that the happenings at the residences of prominent persons in the country are being exposed to China, Israel, and Pakistan.
K.S. Alagiri while speaking to BPNS over the telephone said, “The snooping incident is a shame on our democracy. How can the Union Home minister absolve of this, he has to put in his papers for this illegal surveillance on the hapless citizens of this country. The total national security is being compromised and the Union Home Minister is not saying anything.TNCC demands his resignation with immediate effect.”
