The Tamil Nadu State election commission has rescinded the urban local body polls at Kadambur Town panchayat in Thoothukudi district that was to be held on February 19.
It may be noted that a total of 21 Municipal corporations, 138 municipalities, and 489 town panchayats are going for urban local body polls in Tamil Nadu on February 19th. The elections to Urban local bodies are being conducted after a gap of ten years with the last elections held in 2011.
A statement from the TNSEC on Monday said that elections were being rescinded since the election officials had not followed the guidelines issued by the commission for the said first-grade town panchayat. The TN state election commission did not elaborate further.
The statement also said that fresh dates for the conduct of elections to Kadambur Town panchayat would be announced later. It also said that directive has been issued to the Thoothukudi district collector /district election officer to suspend the concerned election officials.
