TN Police arrest 9 men who kidnapped a woman from her home, 6 still at large

The Myladuthurai police in Tamil Nadu arrested nine men of a gang of fifteen who tried to kidnap a 23 year old woman by force from her home at Myladuthurai. The woman , who was kidnapped on Tuesday night by a gang of 15 men including her estranged former lover, was rescued hours after the incident by the Myladuthurai police.

Myladuthurai Deputy Superintendent of Police, M. Vasantharaj while speaking to media persons on Friday said that the police could rescue the woman after a few hours as the CCTV visuals of the gang was retrieved by the police soon after the incident and tracked down the culprits.

Police said that Vigneswaran( 31) who was staying with his grandmother at Myladuthurai fell in love with the 23-year-old woman and both were in a relationship. However, after family pressure, the woman distanced herself from the youth which was not taken well by Vigneswaran who continued to stalk the woman.

The Myladuthurai, DSP told BPNS that the youth tried to capture the 23-year-old woman on July 12 but the police intervened and saved them.

On Tuesday, August 2, Vigneswaran along with 14 accomplices barged into the residences of the woman after breaking open the front door and forcibly kidnapped the woman. However, the family immediately called the police who swung into action.

Police officers told BPNS that they first checked the CCTV visuals and found that there were 15 members in the gang and traced the mobile number of one of the members of the gang.  The police caught the accused along with the woman at Vikravandi toll plaza at Coimbatore border.

Police arrested Vigneswaran and his accomplices and charged them with foisting charges under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 366 ( kidnapping), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 ( rioting and armed with deadly weapons, 324 ( voluntarily causing hurt with deadly weapons, 294 b( Abuse), 454 ( trespassing ) among others of the Indian Code and Arms Act.
