The Tiruppur police on Tuesday arrested a lawyer, Abdul Rahman (25) who was on the run after attacking a Public Prosecutor, Jameela Bhanu (42), and her daughter Amirnisha (20).

Rahman who was practicing law under a senior lawyer in Salem stalked Amirnisha who was a law student at the Salem law college and had done an internship with the senior lawyer. The girl lodged a complaint with the Kondalampatti police on August 20 that Abdul Rahman was stalking her.

Police arrested him, produced before a magistrate court, and was remanded in judicial custody. He was later released on conditional bail.

The lawyer on Sunday attacked Amirnisha and her mother Jameela Bhanu at the latter’s officer with sickle and the mother, daughter duo suffered grievous injuries and were admitted to a private hospital at Coimbatore.

Tiruppur police registered a case against Abdul Rahman under Sections 294 (b),307, and 447 of the Indian Penal Code. The young lawyer was on the run since the incident but was arrested by the Tiruppur police on Tuesday afternoon. He will be produced before a magistrate court at Tiruppur.
