Tamil Nadu Police Chief C. Sylendra Babu has directed the police officers including Superintendents of Police to ensure that the autorickshaws and taxis collect only the stipulated fare from passengers on Sundays, the total lockdown days.
The DGP in a circular to all the Police superintendents said that he had received several written complaints from people returning home from the Pongal vacation on the hardship they faced due to exorbitant rates charged by these vehicles.
He however in the circular said that no untoward incident was reported during the complete lockdown days on January 9th and January 16th, the two Sundays when lockdown was implemented in the state.
The State police chief also appreciated the direct intervention of the Superintendents and Commissioners of Police and for their personal supervision of security arrangements.
The Tamil Nadu DGP said that an amount of Rs 78. 34 lakh was collected as fine from the violators of Covid protocol. Sylendra Babu said that 19,962 cases were booked for violation of Covid -19 guidelines on January 9th and 14,951 cases were registered on January 16th.
