Tamil Nadu public health department in a statement on Wednesday said that the state reported 37 fresh Covid -19 cases on Tuesday with zero deaths. Chennai district has 20 new Covid cases becoming the district with the highest number of fresh cases. On Monday, Chennai district had reported 16 cases and there is a slight increase in the number of cases on Tuesday. Chengalpattu with 4 fresh cases reported the second-highest number of cases after Chennai district.
64 patients were discharged and there are 339 active cases in the state during the 24 hours that ended on Tuesday evening.
Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Chengalpattu, Dindigul, Salem, Tiruvallur, Thiruvarur, and Tiruppur also reported a slight increase in the number of fresh Covid -19 cases. Meanwhile, twenty-eight of the thirty-eight districts of Tamil Nadu reported no new Covid -19 cases.
Tiruvallur and Coimbatore reported three new cases while Nilgiris reported one new case.
Of the 339 active cases, Chennai had 129 followed by 45 in Chengalpattu and 26 in the Coimbatore district. All other districts have less than 15 cases. 63 patients of the 339 active cases were admitted to hospitals of which 10 are in ICU. The remaining active cases are at home quarantine, the statement from the public health department said.
75,013 people took vaccine on Tuesday including 37005 in the 12-14 age group and 7705 in the 16-18 age group.
Tamil Nadu health minister, Ma Subramanian while speaking to BPNS said, “ There is a slight increase in fresh Covid cases in the districts of Chennai and Chengalpattu and people have to be very cautious. Everyone must make use of the vaccination facilities and complete their inoculation. Vaccination is the only means to drive away the disease and people must inoculate themselves at the earliest. The state health department is monitoring the situation closely and is in touch with all the district collectors and seeking ground-level reports from them.
Things are under control but people should not lower their guards and must use face masks, sanitization of hands and also safe distancing.”
