Two people were arrested after 4.8 crore rupees worth demonetised notes were seized from their procession. The incident took place at Kalayarkoil, Sivaganga on Monday.
Police said that they had raided the premises of a Physiotherapist, A Arul Chinnaparaj after a tip off that demonetised notes are being changed hands. On interrogation, the 41 year old Arul said that he got the notes from one Varalakshmi who was running an old age home.
Varalakshmi, in her deposition said that she had collected the money as donation from several people to construct a building for an old age home and then the demonetisation happened.
Sivaganga Deputy Superintendent of Police, K U Kalaivarnan while speaking to BPNS said, “We suspect that an interstate gang is behind this and according to information the gang has promised 15 lakh per crore of demonetised notes , further investigations are on.”
The Physiotherapist was employed at Bangalore and recently returned home and got in touch with S Varalakshmi who was desperately trying to exchange the notes.
Recently there have been several instances of the demonetised notes being seized from South Indian states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and police suspects that there are one or two main gangs operating for this.

We are trying to bring out the truth behind this and are interrogating the two who are in custody. We have to ascertain and corroborate facts for a final conclusion on the larger role played by the gang.”
