Chennai, Sept 21 (BPNS)
Two DMK leaders Kanimozhi NVM Somu and KRN Rajesh Kumar have filed nomination papers for the two vacant seats to Rajya Sabha. The elections are to be held on October 4 and with the floor strength in the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly, victory for both the DMK candidates is a foregone conclusion.
While the Kanimozhi NVM Somu is the daughter of the former Union Minister, NVM Somu, and the state convenor of the Medical wing of the party, KRN Rajesh Kumar is the Youth leader and DMK in charge of Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu.
The nomination of Kanimozhi NVM Somu was accepted across the party cadres and lower-level functionaries but there were rumblings from senior leaders over the nomination of Rajesh Kumar.
A senior DMK leader who does not want to be named while speaking to IANS said, “DMK is slowly in a transitional phase with Udayanidhi Stalin calling the shots. The direct access to power is through Udayanidhi now and this would leave the older generation puffing and panting and rumblings are bound to arise in the party.”
Chief Minister M.K.Stalin, Member of Rajya Sabha and senior leader Tiruchi Siva ,HR&CE minister, P.K. Sekar Babu and several other leaders were present during the filing of nominations.
