Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 7 (BPNS)
Two fishermen who had gone to the sea on Sunday morning from Thiruvananthapuram are missing after their boat capsized in Muthala Pozhi near Perumathura. The missing fishermen are Suneer and Safeer who are from Chermunathuruthu here.
The fishing boat in which they had gone to sea along with another fisherman Ansari overturned near the Muthala Pozhi due to high waves and wind.
Ansari swam to safety and reached the shores while Suneer and Safeer were not found till now.
Kerala Marine police and local fishermen are trying to rescue the two fishermen but high waves and winds are preventing the rescue operation.
A fishermen association leader while speaking to BPNS said that there have been several casualties in the Muthala Pozhi area and that the unscientific construction at the Vizhinjam port of Adani is the main reason for these accidents. The fishermen’s leader said that earlier it was easy for the fishermen to swim back to safety when boats capsize but after the construction commenced at Vizhinjam it is difficult to reach the shore safely.
The sand deposits in the Muthalapozhi are also another reason for the boats overturning the area while entering the sea.
A Marine coastal police officer while speaking to BPNS said that the search is on for the missing fishermen and local people are also involved in the search operations.
