Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner ,G Prakash has said that vaccination has led to control of Covid among front line workers.
The commissioner in a release on Saturday said that this is a strong case as to why people should take Covid vaccination. Of the 60,000 to 70,000 frontline workers in the city including Greater Chennai Corporation employees, health care staff and police, only 619 were infected with the pandemic as 90% of them were vaccinated.
The GCC commissioner said that after vaccination no Corporation staff had died due to Covid while 3 policemen lost their lives. The commissioner said that in comparison 26 Greater Chennai Corporation employees have died of Covid in the first wave before vaccination.
The GCC commissioner said that the reduced mortality rate and less infections are mainly owing to the vaccination being taken by frontline workers including GCC employees.
Of the 150 journalists who had taken RT-PCR tests as part of attending the counting on May 2, only one had tested positive. This, according to the GCC commissioner G Prakash is due to the vaccination they had taken. Greater Chennai Corporation has vaccinated journalists as frontline workers since March 2021.
The statement of the GCC commissioner is received well by the frontline workers including healthcare workers, policemen and journalists.
Soundarajan, a health care worker attached with a government hospital while speaking to BPNS said, “ We did take vaccination and this has led to the reduced infections and fatality count among the front line workers including health care staff. “
