Veteran AIADMK leader K. Maya Thevar passes away in TN

K. Maya Thevar who was the first MP of the AIADMK passed away at his native Chinnalpatti vilage in Dindigul , Tamil Nadu after age-related illness. He was 87 . His family members told media persons that the veteran leader was not keeping well for the past few days and he passed away due to a massive heart attack.

The veteran leader was handpicked by none other than the founder leader of the party, M.G. Ramachandran, and made the first MP of the AIADMK in 1973. He was the one who selected the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol for the AIADMK and he was the first leader to contest a by-poll from the Dindigul constituency on the new symbol winning with a huge majority.

AIADMK interim general secretary and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K . Palaniswami while speaking to media persons said, “ He was the first person to contest in the two leaves symbol of the AIADMK shortly after the party was formed and went on to win with a huge margin.”

Edappadi K. Palaniswami expressed his deep condolences on the passing away of the veteran leader.

Former Chief Minister, O. Panneerselvam who was expelled from the AIADMK said that it was Maya Thevar who had selected the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol of the party. he said that Maya Thevar being a practicing advocate had contested several cases on behalf of the party.

He had won the 1973 elections in the two leaves symbol with a massive majority from Dindigul constituency in the by-elections and later also he went on to win many elections.

AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran, former interim general secretary of the AIADMK, V. K. Sasikala also expressed their condolences in the passing away of Maya Thevar.
