VHS, Madras Medical Mission Hospital join hands to start cardiology hospital

Voluntary Health Services (VHS), Taramani will offer cardiac services in association with the Madras Medical Mission hospital. The facility will be operational from Monday, May 16, 2022.

M.M. Philip, Hon Secretary  of Madras Medical Mission Hospital said that the project has been discussed for the past several years.  Philip also said that it was a logical step to have an association with an organization like the VHS who have similar objectives like that of the MMM. He also said that Cardiovascular diseases are becoming the leading cause of mortality in India and that the need for cardiac care was growing in Chennai. The official of MMM said that  the relationship with VHS will help the MMM to reach out to the community in other areas of the city.

The honorary Secretary of VHS, Dr.S. Suresh said that its model was to provide community services at affordable cost and added that the hospital has been running the department of Cardiology for 30 years as an outpatient service.

Dr.Suresh while speaking to media persons said ,” We were looking around for a partner. We chose MMM as both the organisations are run by trusts. MMM has 35 years of experience in cardiology.”

He also said that the partnership with the MMM has helped the VHS not to start afresh and added that due to the Covid -19 pandemic the project was delayed. He said that the two organisations were in discussions two years ago on the project.

VHS would have a dedicated Cardiac OPD block to offer specialty service. Dr.Suresh said, “ We will have VHS-MMM Institute of Cardiovascular diseases and this is a milestone in the history of VHS.” He said that the level of professionalism exhibited by MMM will benefit VHS.

The Director of Cardiology in MMM, Dr. Ajit Mullasery said that the support staff from MMM would train the VHS staff and said that the same kind of cardiac care would be provided at the VHS also.
