Six arrested for murder of Dalit youths in Aarkonam

Chennai, April 9(BPNS)

Six youths were arrested in the murder of two dalit youths at Aarkonam in Ranipet district of Tamil Nadu. Two dalit youths, Surya and Arjunan were murdered allegedly by a group of youths belonging to the Vanniyar community following a brawl on Wednesday night. Three youths are injured greviously in the attack

The murder has led to tempers flying with the President of Viduthalai Chiruthagai Katchi(VCK), Thol Tirumavalavan MP ,accusing the Pattali Makkal Katchi(PMK) and Vanniyar community to be behind the brutal murder of the dalit youths.

The arrested youths are R Surendran nicknamed Puli, R Ajith., R Madhan,  V Nandakumar, S Karthik and P Sakthiya are the arrested youths. The Arkonam police have booked them under charges of murder and also invoked the provisions of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities Act) 1989, as the victims hail from SC community.

Ranipet SP, K Sivakumar while speaking to BPNS said, “We have already arrested six people who are involved in the murder and are probing in all angles on the reasons behind the murder.”

Aarkonam police have swung into action and is leaving no stone unturned to probe the case and DSP Manoharan while speaking to BPNS said, “ The department has been taking proper measures and is conducting the case in an unbiased manner. We will take proper action against all those who are involved.”

A heavy police posse under the leadership of Ranipet SP ,Sivakumar and Arkonam DSP Manoharan are camping at the area to prevent any further escalation of issues.

The Police department said that it will take appropriate measures to distribute the financial aid under the SC/ST(Prevention of Atrocities act) to the families of the victims.
