No respite for Covid surge in Tamil Nadu, 18692 fresh cases, 113 deaths

Amidst the government taking several pro active measures including awareness on wearing of masks, social distancing and usage of sanitisers, there seems to be no respite for Covid cases in the state of Tamil Nadu. On Friday , the state recorded 18692 fresh cases with 113 deaths.

Chennai with 42 deaths reported the highest number of deaths in the state in a single day. This is the highest single day death tally in Chennai ever since the pandemic began last year.

35 of 37 districts of the state recorded more than 100 cases in a single day. Ranipet has the highest number of deaths in Tamil Nadu after Chennai with 12 deaths followed by Salem with 10 deaths.

Chennai continued to be the hotspot with 5473 fresh cases and 31,222 active cases. Chengelpet followed with 1215 fresh cases and Coimbatore with 1113 cases.

Chennai, Chengelpet and Tiruvallur which are the three adjoining districts and coming under Chennai zone recorded almost 41% of the total cases in Tamil Nadu.

In Western Tamil Nadu except Nilgiris which reported 58 fresh cases all other districts reported more than 200 fresh cases each and the region recorded 17 deaths.
