Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader and South Indian Superstar, Kamal Haasan has called upon the Tamil Nadu government to launch a Radio channel exclusively for educational purposes. He said that this would reduce the time spent by children on screens as well as reduce the connectivity problems and smartphone issues faced by the students.
He said that the radio channel could be modeled in the lines of the exclusive television channel for education, “Kalvi Tv”. The popular actor said that this could benefit the children in a big way.
Kamal Haasan cited the example of a middle school teacher, Karthikraja in Kattazhai panchayath in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu who had launched an internet radio, www.kalviradio.com for the benefit of students.
The actor-turned-politician said that the teacher had ventured into this initiative to help students in rural areas of Tamil Nadu who just have 2G connections.
He said that around 75 teachers have joined together in this mission out of their own self-interest and love for their children to run this internet radio and added that this has benefitted students from Class 1 to Class VIII. He said that the students required only 300Mb data for attending the classes.
The actor said that the internet radio has attracted more than 3.2 lakh visitors and had functioned for more than 14500 hours.
