TN Mega Covid -19  vaccination camp on September 12 to benefit 10% of the eligible population

The Mega Covid -19 vaccination camp to be conducted at 10,000 centres across Tamil Nadu and to benefit 10% of the eligible population of the state. The state health department in a statement on Tuesday said that the camps which are modelled on the lines of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation( IPPI) model.  The Directorate of Public Health is expecting to vaccinate- 36,20,343 people in this mega camp on September 12.

The Directorate of Public Health in the statement said that the estimated population of the state of Tamil Nadu by the mid-2021 was 7.77 crore and the eligible population of those above 18 years of  was 6.06 crore. According to the study, a total of 3,31,84,824 people were inoculated in government Covid -19 vaccine centres till September 5. Of this 2,62,93,892 were vaccinated with the first dose while 68,90,932 received both the doses of the vaccine.

The Deputy Directors of Health services across the state have been directed by the State Public Health and Preventive Medicine department that Covid -19 vaccinations should be conducted on September 12 in the fixed booths already selected for IPPI programme.

The state has 40,399 regular IPPI programme booths and 2652 additional booths that makes the total to 43,051 booths.

The state health minister Ma Subramanian has directed the health department to give special focus to residents of high-risk areas like areas bordering the state of Kerala where the number of Covid -19 positive cases are high.  The focus is also on hilly areas and hard to reach areas as people at these places would not have got even the first dose of the vaccine.

The Directorate of Public Health said that these vaccination booths would function from 7 am to 7 pm and would have a minimum of four people to manage. One vaccinator, one person for data entry and two Anganwadi workers.

Tamil Nadu Health minister Ma Subramanian while speaking to BPNS said,” The state is on a mega vaccine drive and we are ensuring that at least 10% of the eligible population receive at least one dose of the vaccine. I have already written a letter to the Union health minister of a separate allotment of 1 crore vaccines for this mega camp and is expecting to receive the allotment.”
