A 26-year-old person from Tirumullaivoyal in Tamil Nadu who cheated several women after befriending in facebook was arrested on Saturday night.
Police said that Lokesh (26) was an Engineering dropout and used to befriend women who were seeking friendships through social media platforms, mainly Facebook. He was a YouTuber.
According to the prosecution, he used to befriend women using fake FB profiles with photos of different people and used various names. Police said that he would enter into intimate relationships with women and would get details of these women. He would take screenshots of these talks and would threaten the women that he would share the chat details with their friends and relatives.
The police registered a case after a College student lodged a complaint that she was threatened by a person whom she had befriended in FB and asked for jewelry and cash.
Lokesh was produced before a magistrate court on Saturday night itself and remanded to judicial custody.
Police said that he has cheated several women in Puducherry, Dindigul, Coimbatore, and Kanyakumari and even a woman from Malayasia and had taken money and other valuables from them.
A senior police officer said that the police are checking whether he had cheated more people and whether there were any associates who were working with him in these cheating episodes.
