Chennai, Dec 29 (BPNS)

Tamil Nadu police arrested a 24-year-old Woman at Perambalur after she married a 17-year-old boy. The Perambalur police arrested the woman on Monday night from her residence.

According to the prosecution, the woman as part of her teacher training course went to a Government High School at Vickramangalam two years ago. She met a 15-year-old boy whom she taught and fell in love with him.

Even after she went back home, the duo continued their relationship and on October 22, 2021, they got married at Gangaikondacholapuram without their parents knowing about the same.

The boy later took his new bride to his grandmother’s home at Moongilapadi where no one was residing. While the house was closed, the boy knew the place where his grandmother had kept the keys of the house and entered the home and spent time at the grandmother’s place.

The boy’s mother was worried about not finding him even after sunset and called him on his phone. The boy confided to the mother that he was in love with a woman and had taken her to his grandmother’s place and that they were together there.

The police said that after the boy told where he was and that he was with a woman, she shouted at him and told him that his family will not allow them to live together. The boy and the woman were worried and the duo consumed poison. However, police said that the boy showed presence of mind and drove the woman and himself to a PHC at Kunnam in a two-wheeler and after treatment, for more than a fortnight they recovered and reached their respective homes.

After both of them had recovered and reached their respective residences, the boy’s father filed a police complaint against the woman for luring his underaged son and later marrying him while he had not attained the marriable age. The woman was arrested and POCSO court in Chennai remanded her in judicial custody.
