Chennai, Jan 25 (BPNS)

A division bench of Madras High Court on Tuesday expunged the adverse remarks made by a single bench of the court against Actor Vijay in a case related to the import of luxury car from England.

Division bench of the Madras high court comprising of Justices Pushpa Satyanarayana and Mohammed Shafiq said that the remarks made in certain paragraphs of the order of the single judge stand expunged.

It may be noted that another division bench of Justices M. Duraisamy and R. Hemalatha on July 26,2021 stayed the order of the single bench judge, M.M. Subramaniam on July 13, 2021.

The single bench had made adverse remarks against Vijay for seeking exemption of tax for his Rolls Royce Ghost imported from England and also imposed a cost of Rs 1 lakh on the actor as a fine.

Vijay had moved an appeal through senior Advocate Vijay Narayanan who was the former Advocate General of Tamil Nadu against the order of the single bench which was stayed by the division bench on July 26, 2021.

The counsel had argued that the adverse remarks made by the single bench of the Madras High court had hurt the actor and in several other cases court had rejected similar pleas of tax exemption but had not made such adverse remarks.
