Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 4 (IANS)

Malayalam film world is excited at the super-duper hit of its own Superman movie ‘Minnal Murali’ directed by young Engineering graduate and actor Basil Joseph. Basil and Tovino Thomas who played the role of Superhero ‘Minnal Murali’ and the entire crew had taken extreme tension and pressure following the Covid pandemic and was skeptical as to how the movie would be taken by the audience but released in OTT platform into a super-duper hit.

Now after all the positive reviews and expectations of a sequel to the movie, the film has entered into a question paper of an Engineering examination conducted in one of the oldest colleges of the state, Mar Athanasius College of Engineering or MA College of Engineering (MACE)in Kothamangalam, Ernakulam dist of Kerala.

The second-year Mechanical Engineering students of the college took their third-semester examination on Mechanics of Fluids with questions being weaved from the movie ‘Minnal Murali’.

A sample of the question is like this, Kurukkanmoola ( The fictitious place in the movie Minnal Murali) is located at sea level and Minnal Murali is to take a hot bath and this is when Josemon, nephew of Minnal Murali says that is possible to boil water below 100 degree Celsius. Please explain if it is possible for Minnal Murali.

All the fifteen questions in the examination paper are with scenes from the movie Minnal Murali.

Professor Kurian Joseph who set the question paper was all smiles when his question paper went viral after the director, Basil Joseph who himself is an engineering graduate took to social media with the question paper.

Kurian Joseph while speaking to IANS said, “ The director Basil Joseph called me up the same day itself and put it in his social media handle and the question paper went viral. The director told me that he was happy at the movie entering into the world of academia and thanked me for the same. There were positive responses from all around but some negative feedbacks were also there. However, I loved the two earlier movies of Basil, Kunjiramayanam, and Godha than Minnal Murali.”

The professor has set a question paper earlier in 2017 after one year of his joining the college in 2016 featuring all the 65 students of his class as characters. He had also set a question paper drawn on the theme of deluge which the state has undergone in back-to-back years in 2018 and 2019.

Joseph while speaking to IANS said, “ University guidelines regarding setting question papers are strictly followed and improvisation is limited only to the way questions are framed and that too subject to the approval of stream coordinator and head of the department. The idea is to bring in a little fun element in the otherwise tedious exam and to prick the curiosity of students to motive them to learn the concepts of the questions.”

Kurian Joseph also said that his guide at IIT Madras where he had done his PhD, Dr. C. Rajendran was the inspiration behind these quirky questions as the Professor used to have one-liners during the research period to motivate his students.
