18 more test Covid -19 positive at IIT- Madras on Friday

Tamil Nadu health department officials on Friday said that 18 persons including students and staff tested positive for Covid -19 on Friday.  With 18 more testing positive for Covid -19, the total number in IIT Madras who have tested positive for the pandemic in the last two days is 30.

The Tamil Nadu state government has directed the state health department to test a minimum of 25000 samples. Presently 18000 samples are tested on a daily basis to test for Covid -19.

With the IIT Madras testing 30 positive cases in the two days, a high-level meeting of the health department officials was conducted. State health secretary Radhakrishnan in a statement said that the health department has called for stringent adhering to Covid -19 protocols.

Tamil Nadu government has announced that wearing masks were mandatory and those who are not wearing masks would have to pay a fine of Rs 500.

The state health minister, Ma Subramanian while speaking to BPNS said, “ The increase in Covid -19 cases at IIT Madras is being studied in detail. The state health department is closely monitoring the situation and will take necessary steps regarding the same.”

He also said that people must stick to Covid -19 standard protocol and has made wearing masks mandatory.
