Thiruvananthapuram, April 24 (BPNS)

The Houthi rebels of Yemen who have taken into custody Indian sailors in captivity since January 2, 2022, along with their UAE flagged merchant ship, Rwabee have released sailors including three Keralites. The vessel was seized in the Red Sea by the rebels.

The released sailors are  Dipash of Meppayur in Kozhikode, Akhil of Alappuzha, and Sreejith from Kottayam. The relatives of the three said that they have got information about the release of the three Keralite sailors.

There were 11 sailors, all Indians who were under the captivity of the Houthi rebels.

The Houthi rebels had then claimed that the UAE flagged vessel, Rwabee was carrying ‘military supplies’ and that it had entered the Yemeni waters of the coast of Hodeidah without any authorization.

It may be noted that the Union External Affairs Ministry was in touch with the UN mission to felicitate the release of the Indian sailors.
