Bribery case: Kerala BJP President K Surendran booked under non-bailable offense

The interim report submitted by the Crime branch stated that the BJP state president K Surendran has been booked non-bailable section under the Prevention of Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe Atrocities Act, in connection with the Manjeswaram bribery case.

The case registered in June 2020, alleged that K Surendran paid a BSP candidate, Sundara from Manjeshwar, Rs 2.5 lakhs, and a smartphone, worth Rs 8000, to withdraw his candidature. The Crime Branch has filed an interim report, a year after the case was registered, against K Surendran in the Kasargod Judicial First Class Magistrate Court yesterday.

According to the report, of the six accused in the case, K Surendran is the prime accused, and the other five BJP leaders will be booked under non-bailable offenses along with the President. The other five accused are former state treasurer of Yuva Morcha Sunil Naik, former BJP district president K Balakrishna Shetty, leaders Suresh Naik, and K. Manikanda Rai and Lokesh Londa.

In addition to Sections 171B and E of the Representation of the People Act, the leader was also booked for unlawful detention and destruction of evidence. The report was submitted by a team led by District Crime Branch DySP Satish Kumar.
