Puducherry government join hands with NGO to prevent malnutrition among children

The Union Territory of Puducherry has joined hands with Vitamin Angels India, a charitable organization to prevent malnutrition and child mortality.

Office of the Chief Minister of Puducherry in a statement said that the NGO Vitamin Angels will extend technical assistance to frontline health workers of the territory and provide uninterrupted supply of Vitamin A and Albendazole.

The NGO will also provide frontline health workers training on the implementation of nutritional programmes. This includes safe and effective delivery of Vitamin A as also providing deworming tablets to children.

A senior health official of the government of Puducherry told BPNS that children under five years of age and from all areas of the UT including Puducherry, Karaikal, Yanam, and Mahe with nutrition interventions with the support provided by Vitamin Angels.

Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy in a statement said that Puducherry continues to improve on health and nutrition indicators especially those concerning children.

He also said that the territorial government aims to strengthen existing nutrition programmes to build a healthier and happy Puducherry. The statement also said that the Union Territory has taken major progress in ensuring better health for children under the age of five.

It is to be noted that Vitamin Angels India has supported various States and UT to complement the government’s efforts in improving nutritional service delivery.
