Chennai, June 9 (BPNS)

South Indian superstar Kamal Haasan who is now in the limelight of the success of the super hit movie ‘Vikram’ which has a 9 out of 10 ratings in IMD, has said that he would not shy away from politics and would contest the next Tamil Nadu assembly elections.

The veteran actor said that his political party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) has entered its fifth year and that he would not take a break from politics due to the success of the movie. It may be noted that Kamal launched Makkal Needhi Maiam with the thought that he would fill the void of the passing away of Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi, the two stalwarts of Tamil politics. However, the party could not do well with MNM fetching 3.7% of the votes in the 2019 loksabha elections but it came further down in the 2021 assembly elections with the party getting only 2.6% of the votes. In the 2021 rural panchayath elections and the Urban polls of 2022 also MNM failed miserably and several senior leaders of the party resigned from the primary membership of the MNM including its founder leaders.

With the success of Vikram and Kamal Haasan back to the limelight as an actor, the veteran actor told media on Thursday, June 9th that he would be contesting the next assembly polls from Tamil Nadu. It is to be noted that in the 2021 assembly elections, the south Indian superstar lost miserably to the BJP leader Vanathi Srinivasan from Coimbatore South assembly seat.

Kamal Haasan who has taken a break of four years from the film industry has come back with a bang in the movie Vikram which is a super-duper success.

Vikram directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj has broken several records in the run-up to its box office success and a sequel to the movie is almost certain.

Other than Kamal Haasan, Vikram has a cast line of Vijay Sethupathi, Fahad Fazil, Narain, Kalidas Jayaram, Chemban Vinod, Shivani Narayanan, and Antony Varghese. Tamil superstar, Suriya played an extended cameo role in the movie.

Kamal Haasan had gifted a luxury car to the director of the movie Lokesh Kanagaraj and 13 motorbikes to its assistant directors. The veteran actor also gifted a Rolex watch to superstar Suriya who according to industry information did not charge anything for the movie which was jointly produced by R. Mahendran and Raj Kamal International films owned by Kamal Haasan.
