The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre has alerted the people of Kerala of heavy rains for the next five days. The weathermen said that heavy rains will lash out in the state till Thursday.

A yellow alert has been issued in eleven districts of the state. Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, and Kollam districts are excluded from the yellow alert.

Heavy to very heavy rains are likely in the state till Thursday with the likelihood of 7-11 cm rains in the next 24 hours. Thunderstorms with lighting are also likely to occur during the heavy rains, the IMD in a statement on Sunday said.

The rains have led to a minor landslide leading to the destruction of a house at Murikasseri in Idukki district of Kerala. A mud mound fell on the house of Elsamma where she and her family were sleeping. Police said that the wall of the house collapsed but the family members escaped with minor injuries. Police said that heavy rains in Idukki district have led to the mud mound falling on the house.

The state disaster management authority has also issued warnings to all the district collectors regarding heavy rains and the possibility of inundation and floods in some places of the state. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has also been kept on alert for any major issues related to the heavy rains in the state.
