Congress questions AKG Centre attack in Kerala Assembly

Thiruvananthapuram, June 4 (BPNS)

The Kerala Assembly on Monday witnessed an extraordinary incident as the Congress-led Opposition moved an adjournment motion against the attack on ruling front CPI (M)’s state committee office -AKG Center.

Though the Opposition move was to mock the government as the police are yet to make a single arrest on the incident, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan took the stance that the issue could indeed be discussed.

While the CM said that the police are looking for the real culprit, opposition leader VD Satheesan alleged that an inquiry should be conducted in the absence of a patrolling vehicle in front of the AKG Center on that fateful night. Earlier, PC Vishnunath, who gave notice for the adjournment motion, raised some questions to the government regarding the alleged crude bomb attack.

“One of the pertinent questions is how one managed to carry out the attack when there was a police presence. How did that person escape? Why the police team didn’t chase the attacker? Why patrolling team or personnel from any of the police stations didn’t launch a manhunt? Why did the police show hesitation in verifying the CCTV cameras? Why didn’t the police question LDF convener EP Jayarajan for checking how he got information that Congress is behind the attack?” said Vishnunath.

At the same time, the CM in his response alleged that a larger conspiracy is there and the attack was not out of a sudden provocation.

“It is strongly suspected that the attack was carried out after enough preparation. The person took stock of the situation a couple of times. The bomb was then hurled at a point where there was no police presence. It was also made sure that there is not enough visibility or CCTV presence that helps to identify the attacker. The police are leaving no stone unturned. Very soon they will find the real culprit,” said the CM.

Meanwhile, Satheesan took a jibe at the CPI (M), as he said that the party celebrated the attack and used it as a reason to attack Congress’ party offices and bust of its leaders. To this, the CM said that the government ensures strong action against those who attack the party offices, and such incidents will be dealt with strongly.

The discussion that started at 1 pm continued till 3.30 pm. This is for the second time since the commencement of the fifth session that an adjournment motion has been taken up for discussion. Earlier, the notice for the gold smuggling case was discussed.
