Fake video on Kalakurichi incident: TN Police warns of stringent action against perpetrators

The Superintendent of Police, Kallakurichi district, R. Selvakumar who was injured in the stone pelting by protests the violent protests on Sunday has warned of stringent action against those who were circulating a fake and misleading video on the Kallakurichi incident.

The SP warned that if any individual or groups were seen circulating the fake video linking to the death of the Class XII student, strict police action would be meted out.

In a statement on Monday, Selvakumar IPS said that some persons were spreading fake news and circulating a video that was in no way connected to the incident reported in the private school. The matter, he said was taken up for investigation following complaints.

The Kallakurichi Superintendent of Police said that the fake video which was being circulated is related to the theft of a laptop that took place in a government school in Salem district.

State police intelligence commenced investigation into the perpetrators of violence on Sunday after the Madras high court has come down heavily on those who had instigated the violence. The court has said that the peaceful protests that were taking place since Wednesday suddenly turned into a violent one due to some planning and had called upon the state police to conduct a detailed investigation of the incidents that had led to the violence at Kallakurichi.

It is to be noted that the private residential school was vandalized and many school buses and four police vehicles were torched. Justice Satish Kumar of the Madras High Court has said that the actions on Sunday had given a feeling that Tamil Nadu is turning into a state of lawlessness and called upon the police not to allow such a situation in the state.
