TN Water Resources organization commence work to repair Parambikulam dam in Kerala

The Tamil Nadu Water Resources Organisation (WRO), has commenced the repair of the shutter of the Parambikkulam dam in the Palakkad district of Kerala. The shutter of the dam which is usually raised by 10 cm on Wednesday early morning opened for the entire height of 25 ft leading to a huge inflow of water into the Athirapally river.

While the dam is situated in Kerala, its maintenance is conducted by the Water Resources Organisation( WRO) of Tamil Nadu. The dam has a total height of 72 and the storage level on Tuesday night was 71.45 ft.

A senior officer with the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Organisation team told IANS that the shutter has to be totally replaced and it may take about three to four weeks.

The officer said that the North East Monsoon will intensify by October 20th and the shutter has to be replaced before that.

Suresh Kumar, Asst Executive Engineer, Parambikkulam dam while speaking to media persons said, “ The water level is being maintained and there is no threat of any flood-like situation due to this. We are monitoring the situation closely.”
