CPI-M leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan passes away

CPI-M leader and former state secretary of the party, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan (69) passed away at Appolo Hospital, Chennai after fighting a long battle with Cancer. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was admitted to the Appolo hospital, Chennai on August 29, 2022 after his condition worsened in Kerala.

He was a five term MLA from Thalassery, the red bastion of CPI-M in Kannur district of Kerala. He was a state home and tourism minister in the V.S. Achuthanandan government. He was a public face of the CPI-M in Kerala and is remembered as a leader who always maintained excellent relationship with people cutting across poltiical lines.

The body of the late leader will be flown into Kannur airport from Chennai in an air ambulance on Sunday morning. CPI-M Kerala state secretary M.V. Govindan and Tamil Nadu state secretary, K. Balakrishnan are at Appolo hospital to supervise the shifting of the body from Chennai to Kannur.

The funeral of the late leader will take place at Payyambalam beach, Kannur on Monday at 3 pm.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Congress leader, A.K. Antony and many senior political leaders condoled the passing away of Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.
