AIADMK expels former MP, V.Maitreyan from party

Chennai, Oct 9(BPNS)

In continuation to the ongoing tussle between the Edapaddi K. Palaniswami faction and the O. Panneerselvam faction in the AIADMK, former MP and one of the most prominent members of the party, V.Maitreyan was expelled from the party. He was the organizing secretary of the party at the time of his expulsion.

The seasoned politician was expelled by the AIADMK interim general secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami citing anti-party activities. In a statement, EPS said that Maitreyan was bringing disrepute to the party through anti-party activities.

Maitreyan, it may be recalled was a prominent leader of the Tamil Nadu BJP and was  Rajya Sabha MP from both BJP and AIADMK.

It is to be noted that the seasoned politician had switched loyalties to O. Panneerselvam recently and this led to the AIADMK official leadership getting infuriated and expelling him.

The AIADMK is in a tough phase with former Chief coordinator and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, O. Panneerselvam, and his close associates expelled from the party during the July 11 general council meeting. There has been a realignment of social groups in the party with the Thevar community throwing its support for OPS and Sasikala, two prominent leaders from the community.
