In a shocking incident, two women who were selling lottery tickets in Ernakulam were sacrificed for economic prosperity. The deceased ar Rosylin (49) of Kaladi in Aluva and Padmalakshmi (52), a Tamil native in Ernakulam.
Police took into custody, Bhagaval Singh (60) , his wife Laila (48), and Mohammed Shafi(43). The incident came to light after the sister of Padmalakshmi registered a complaint with the Ernakulam city police stating that her sister was missing. A complaint was given by her sister on September 27 and police conducted a detailed inquiry. However, there was no tip-off until the Call Data Records (CDR) of Padma revealed that she was regularly in touch with Mohammed Shafi. When Shafi was questioned, he did not reveal anything, later during interrogation in custody, he spilled the beans and told the police of the incident.
Police on Monday night reached Elanthur in Pathanamthitta district and took into custody, Bhagval Singh and his wife Laila. Ernakulam city police commissioner who is the investigating officer told media persons that Mohammed Shafi created a fake FB id of a woman, Sridevi, and entered into a relationship with Bhagval Singh, and from the fake id informed Singh that she know a Muslim sorcerer who will help the family gain wealth if some rituals are conducted. Shafi in the guise of Sridevi informed Bhagval Singh that he would bring the sorcerer and he later appeared before the family as the sorcerer Rashid.
On reaching the home of Bhagval Singh, Shafi as Rashid convinced Singh and his Wife Laila that he wanted to have sex with Laila in front of Bhagval Singh so that he would gain material wealth. Later he convinced them of human sacrifice and brought Roslyn who was killed in June after tying her to a cot and then cut her in the neck, private parts and made her bleed to death. After no material gains were obtained, Singh and Laila complained to Shafi who said that some curse had happened during the ritual and that one more has to be done. They lured Lakshmi to Bhagval Singh’s home and killed her just like Rosalyn was killed.
The Ernakulam city police on a missing woman complaint cracked the case and took into custody all the three. It may be noted that Bhagval Singh and Laila are under police custody.
Ernakulam city police commissioner, Nagaraju while speaking to media persons said,” This is one of the cruelest murders. Shafi, the first accused is arrested but the other two will be arrested after some more investigation at their home and premises.”
