Indian Navy fires at Tamil fisherman, admitted to hospital

An Indian Navy patrolling ship which was keeping a close vigil at the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) fired at a boat that was fishing near Palk Bay. In the firing, a fisherman from Myladuthurai in Tamil Nadu who was engaged in fishing near Kodiyakarai was injured.. The fisherman, Veeraval(30) of Myladuthurai suffered bullet injuries in stomach and legs.

Police said that the Indian Navy regularly keep a constant vigil at the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and they found a suspicious boat on the wee hours of Friday. Even after repeated warning the boats continued to move and the Naval ship fired shots at the boat. The  Naval officers immediately reached the boat and found an injured Veeraval. 

The Naval Helicopter ,INS Parundu reached the spot and rescued the injured fisherman who was first taken to the Ramanathapuram Government hospital and later shifted to Government Madurai Medical College where is now admitted.

Ramanathapuram district collector and district superintendent of police visited the injured fisherman in the hospital. Sources in the Coastal Security Group told BPNS that an inquiry has been ordered by the Navy on the incident. District Superintendent of Police have also ordered an inquiry into the incident.
