Sri Lankan navy arrests 7 Indian fishermen from TN

Sri Lankan Navy on Wednesday late night arrested 7 Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu. The fishermen were arrested while fishing at Nadatheevu for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).

A mechanized fishing boat in which the fishermen were engaged in their vocation was also seized by the Sri Lankan Navy, according to a Tamil Nadu government fishing department official.

Officials said that the fishermen hailing from Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu were taken to Kankesanthurai harbour in Sri Lanka. The mechanized boat was also taken to Kankesanthurai harbour.

 The fishermen association  of Rameswaram protested against the arrest of the seven fishermen along with the mechanized boat in which they were fishing.  The fishermen leaders demanded the immediate involvement of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin for the release of the fishermen from Rameswaram.
