The fishermen of Tamil Nadu will be conducting a state-wide protest against the Indian navy firing on Indian fishermen from the state grievously injuring one and minor injuries to others.

A 35-year-old fisherman, K. Viraval of Vangiri in Myladuthurai district was injured after a Naval personal fired at the boat in which he and other fishers were involved in fishing near Palk Bay. The incident took place on October 21. The firing incident led to grievous injury to Viraval and minor injuries to  nine other fishermen.

G. Devan, a fishermen leader of Myladuthurai while speaking to BPNS said, “  The Indian fishermen were attacked by the Indian Navy and one of the fishermen is grievously injured and nine others have minor injuries. We want the central and state governments to provide proper compensation to all the ten fishermen injured in the attack.”

Devan also demanded a government job for Veeraval as he was partly maimed due to the injuries sustained in firing by the Indian Navy.  The agitation is likely to have participation from all coastal districts of the state and communication has been sent to all the coastal areas.

Tharangambai, Vanagiri, Chinnakottaimedu, and Pazhayar fisherfolk panchayaths are spearheading the agitation to be conducted by the fishermen on November 11
