- April 9, 2024

Chennai, April 9(BPNS)

The Election Commission has identified 67 polling booths in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu as critical and vulnerable. The ECI will deploy micro observers in these polling booths.

A statement from ECI said that these booths have been identified as critical and vulnerable based on past experiences and voting patterns in previous elections.

The polling would also be streamed live from the vulnerable booths. The micro observers will monitor whether all facilities are available at the polling stations.

The micro observers will be monitoring the mock polls and declaration of results, timing of conducting the mock polls, whether EVMs and VVPATs worked properly, and other activities at the polling stations.

They will also monitor whether the documents approved by the Election Commission of India for voting were accepted by the polling officials.

The Election Commission would also arrange extra police deployment in these 67 critical and vulnerable polling booths of Villupuram district.

In Villupuram Lok Sabha constituency, sitting MP and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader D.Ravikumar is fighting against Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader, S.Murali Sankar. It may be recalled that PMK is a political party of the powerful Vanniyar community while the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi is a Dalit political party. There has been several killings in fights between the two groups and hence there has been serious law and order problems in many areas of the districts.
