Chennai, May 26 (BPNS)

AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has come out against the DMK government of the state in not announcing free laptops to government school students of the state.

In a statement on Sunday (May 26), EPS said that it was highly condemnable that the state government was not making any announcements regarding free laptops for state government school students.

He said that only a few days were remaining for the reopening of schools in Tamil Nadu and the state government was not making any announcements regarding the free laptop scheme. The former Chief Minister said that the scheme of free laptops to government school children was introduced during the previous AIADMK government of the state.

EPS said that the free laptops for government schools were introduced to increase the quality of education of government school students.

The former Chief Minister in the statement asked the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin whether he will introduce the free laptop scheme which was stopped after the DMK government assumed office in the state.

The former Chief Minister in another statement said that Tamil Nadu State Electricity board was in the process of allowing only one electricity connection in the name of the house owner and that board has commenced inspection work on the same.

He said that if the house owner stays in one portion of the house and a tenant was staying in another portion 100 free units of power would be provided.

However if the tenant vacates and if the house owner has two electricity connections one will be disconnected and for reconnection after a new tenant comes, then the house owner has to apply for a new connection.

This would lead to the house owner spending more on the new connection, the leader of the opposition said.

EPS said that during the period of AIADMK government free 100 units of power was provided for both the connections and called upon the DMK government to maintain the same status quo.
