Chennai, May 30 (BPNS)

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president and former Union Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has again demanded the Tamil Nadu government to approach the Supreme Court to ban online Rummy and Poker games.

In a post in social media platform, ‘X’ , the PMK leader said that a youth worker in a lodge had committed suicide reportedly due to his losing money playing online gambling.

It may be recalled that the Madras High Court on November 29, 2023 refused to strike down the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Online Gambling and Regulation of Online Games Act, 2022 in its entirety.

The court said that prohibition would apply only to games of chance and not games of skill like rummy and poker.

The PMK leader in his appeal to the Tamil Nadu government said that since the verdict of the Madras High Court, 12 people have ended their lives in the state in connection with online gambling. He said that out of this 6 people ended their lives in the past one month.

Anbumani Ramadoss demanded the state government to approach the Supreme Court and added that immediate steps have to be taken regarding this as several innocent lives were lost due to traps through online gambling.
