A heavy police deployment is in place in Kanniyakumari district for the ensuing visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is scheduled to arrive by 4.45 pm in a helicopter from Thiruvananthapuram international airport.

The Prime Minister is visiting Kanniyakumari for a three day meditation at Vivekananda Rock memorial from May 30 to June 1.

3000 police personnel are on duty with several tiers of security arranged for the Prime Minister’s visit.

Narendra Modi is scheduled to reach the Government guest house in Kanniyakumari from the helipad and after that will visit the Kanniyakumari devi temple where he will offer prayers.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to travel to the Vivekananda Rock memorial in a ferry and will be at the meditation hall of the Rock memorial for close to 45 hours in full meditation.

Restrictions are in place in Kanniyakumari district and in the Kanniyakumari devi temple where the Prime Minister will reach today evening for prayers.

Meanwhile the Congress party has come out against the Prime minister undertaking a three day meditation at Vivekananda Rock memorial. Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president, K. Selvaperunthagai has shot a letter to the Election Commission of India not to grant permission for the Prime Minister’s visit and subsequent three day meditation at Vivekananda Rock memorial.

The Congress leader in the letter said that the Prime Minister was in a silent election campaign during the meditation and that with the Model Code of Conduct under the People’s Representative Act in force, Prime Minister Modi should not be allowed to conduct a three day meditation at Vivekananda Rock memorial.
