Ponraj who was the scientific advisor to former President ,APJ Abdul Kalam and who had joined the party on March 3 also quit the party. Party founder member Kameela Nazeer also resigned from the party.

Election strategist Suresh Iyer, party general secretaries, AG Mourya, Umadevi, KC Kumaravel and M Muruganandam also put in their papers.

Mahendran in a two page letter to the party functionaries said, “There is no change in attitude of party president Kamal Haasan Sir even after the massive defeat of the party and his own defeat from Coimbatore South. I don’t think that he will change also.”

The party vice president was unhappy over the alliances the party had entered into during election time and that Kamal Haasan had taken decisions without consulting any one in the party.
