The World Red Cross Day, 2021 was observed on May 08 2021 at the State Headquarters here.
The Chairman of the Kerala State Branch, CA. M R Ranjit Karthikeyan hoisted the Red Cross Flag and also garlanded the statue of its founder, Jean Henry Dunant, whose Birthday is celebrated as the World Red Cross Day.
He addressed a small gathering and explained the theme of the year – “Together we are Unstoppable”. On this World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, we celebrate our long journey and reaffirm our commitment to our humanitarian mission, Ranjit Karthikeyan stated.
World Red Cross Day is observed every year on 8 May. The occasion is marked to celebrate the principles, history, values, and impact of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. On this day, people pay tribute to members and volunteers of the organisation who contribute to humanitarian work.
The volunteers visited the City Police Commissioner’s office and handed over protection materials to fight Covid 19 for the front line workers of the Police force. The Blood Donation was also done at the Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram to mark the occasion. The Chairman, Ranjit Karthikeyan addressed the NSS Volunteers of Central University of Kerala in a Webinar in the morning and later on in the evening he also addressed the Staff and Students of the Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram. The need and importance of Volunteering was reminded to the Students by the State Chairman.
The Kerala State Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society has been active in bringing relief to the public and is planning to distribute the relief materials received from foreign donors. The oxygen concentrators, pulse oximeters, medicine kits and other relief material is expected to reach the State in a week’s time. However the transportation from Hyderabad and Delhi is a challenge and the logistics is being worked out, Ranjit Karthikeyan informed.
