Lockdown the only solution to contain Coronavirus, TN Chief minister

Tamil Nadu Chief minister MK Stalin has said that the only way to contain the spread of Covid-19 infection is lockdown. He was speaking at a video appeal to the people of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

Stalin in the video appeal said,” The only method to break the spread of Coronavirus is by enforcing complete lockdown and this has yielded results in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere. However, it is affecting the lives of a large section of people and hence cannot be extended further. We have to put an end to his but it  rests in the hands of the people of Tamil Nadu.”

The Tamil Nadu Chief minister appealed to the people of the state to adhere to the guidelines provided by the government and said that the infection can be arrested only the speed of the spread is broken.

Chief Minister said that the complete lockdown has started yielding results and cited the examples of Chennai corporation and Coimbatore. Stalin said,”While new cases in Chennai before the lockdown was 7000 per day it has come down to 2000 per day ever since the lockdown is implemented.” He also said that the cases in Coimbatore and other western regions of Tamil Nadu like Erode and Tiruppur which had shown a surge have also started to come down since the past two days.

Stalin said ,” People must cooperate with the government during the complete lockdown and the government has made arrangements to provide groceries, vegetables, milk and other essential items. Ration shops are also functioning. We will be providing Corona life kits to the rice cardholders in the state.”

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said that beds are vacant in the state at present and that this was owing to the quick steps taken by the government. He said,” In our state three lakh people are getting vaccinated per day and this is the highest rate in the country. We are also conducting 1.75 lakh tests per day, again the highest in the country.”

Stalin said that his visit to Corona ward in Coimbatore ESI hospital was welcomed as well as criticized by a few people. The Chief Minister said, “ My visit to the Covid ward in Coimbatore ESI hospital wearing PPE kit was commended by a large number of people but a section of people had chided me and told me that I should protect myself against this infection. I have given myself to protect the people of Tamil Nadu.”

He said, “We have to put a full stop to this infection and have to implement several schemes for the people of Tamil Nadu after the end of this pandemic.”
