Thiruvananthapuram, June 27(BPNS)
Annie Siva, 31 is a proud Sub Inspector of Police at the Varkala police station, under whose jurisdiction comes the famous Sivagiri Mutt founded by Sree Narayana Guru, one of the main spiritual leaders of the state who led a renaissance movement against caste, untouchability, and the necessity of education leading to the whole round development of the state at now.
Annie joined the Kerala Police as a Sub Inspector on June 25 and ten years before at the same place near the Sivagiri Mutt, she was selling ice cream, candies and lemonade for a living.
The story of this woman police officer is complex and one of grit, determination, and self-confidence that led her to the present success that she is basking in. At the age of 18, she left her home to live with her college mate while she was doing her first-year graduation at Kanjiramkulam Government College, Thiruvananthapuram. Her life turned for the worse after her living together partner left her and she had a six-month-old baby boy, Sivasurya with her and she had to fight her life alone.
Her family did not receive her but was allowed to stay in a shanty adjacent to her grand parent’s home and she had her whole life staring in front of her. Not to be cowed down, this gritty woman did all sorts of jobs and started off her carrier by door to door selling soap and detergent powder. Then she turned to become an insurance agent, delivered groceries in a two-wheeler in the households, and did all jobs for her survival along with her son.
Annie cropped her hair like boys and lived along with her son Sivasurya as if they were brothers.
They grew and in between by studying privately she passed her graduation in Sociology and joined a training institute for the Kerala State Public Service Commission at Thiruvananthapuram in 2014 and cracked the Police constable examination in 2016 and joined the service as a police constable. After serving the state police as a constable, she wrote the officers exam in 2019, cracked it and after training for one and half years is now a Sub Inspector of Police at the Varkala police station, a place where she was selling ice cream, lemonade, and candies for a living.
When contacted Annie said, “Ten years before I was selling Icecream, candies, and lemonade, and now I am the Sub Inspector at the same place. What more revenge can I do against my yesterday’s”.
In a state where all bad things were reported since the past one week with back-to-back dowry deaths and girls getting killed themselves over harassments at in-laws places, the story of Annie Siva is one of inspiration, adventure, grit, and determination, and the sole willpower of a lady.
