Eight arrested in TN after Dalit boy was forced to prostrate before banner of Vanniyar “Guru”

Police Arrested eight men in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu after a Dalit boy was forced to prostrate before the flex banner of the spiritual leader of Vanniyar community, “Kaduvettu Guru”.

The boy was forced to prostrate before the flex banner after he had created a derogatory video about the Guru and shared it on social media platforms including Instagram.

The boy was also arrested by the Thalaignayiru police under the Nagapattinam Police superintendent.

Police arrested the eight youths after them forcing the boy to prostrate before the flex banner of “Kadivettu Guru” became viral. The incident happened in Vandal village in Nagapattinam district on Thursday.

The leader of the gang is seen explaining in the video as to why the boy was forced to prostrate before the flex  banner of the Vanniyar spiritual guru. He was heard saying in the video,” We have been living in communal harmony in this Vandal village for years and this boy was trying to trigger a communal clash by abusing the spiritual guru of the 2.5 crore Vanniyar population. So he is apologising for that.”

The man was also seen advising the boy not to indulge in such activities in the future and to concentrate on his education and to take care of his family. Police arrested the eight men after the video went viral and later the boy lodged a formal complaint. The boy was also arrested for hurting the sentiments of a community by making a derogatory video of their spiritual leader. Police said that the boy would be presented before the Juvenile Justice Board.
