Vice President for increase employability of students through industry, academia connection

Vice President, M. Venkiah Naidu has said that to increase the employability of students, there has to be more cooperation between the industry and the academia. He was speaking after inaugurating the Trichy campus of the SRM Institute of Science and Technology through video conferencing from Raj Bhavan.

The Vice President said that unless there is a proper association between the industry and academia, the engineering graduates will lack the skill necessary for the industries.

He said that only around 7% of the 1.5 million engineering graduates who pass out every year are required for the core engineering jobs.  He said that the emphasis must be on building a strong academia-industry connection and ensuring that creative research leads to the application of groundbreaking technologies.

Venkaiah Naidu also spoke about the necessity of imparting quality education to the student community in the country. He said,” The National Educational Policy is a game-changer in this context. It envisions broad-based, multi-disciplinary, holistic higher education with flexible curricula, creative combinations of subjects, and integration of vocational education.” He said that the document of the NEP is for a quest for excellence in teaching and learning.

The Vice President praised the performance of the Indian athletes at Olympics and Paralympics at Tokyo. He called upon the athletes and organisers to set a target of doubling the medal count in the Paris Olympics of 2024. Venkaiah Naidu said,” I urge all stakeholders including private sector to come together to build an all-encompassing support system for our young and aspiring athletes.”

He also praised the Paralympic athletes for their performance in Tokyo and said that the exemplary performance of these athletes has not only changed the people’s perception towards disability but also kindled hopes of India emerging as a strong nation.

Tamil Nadu Governor Bhanwarilal Purohit, Higher Education minister, K. Ponmudi and   Peramballur loksabha MP and Founder Chancellor of SRM University ,T.R. Paarivendhar also spoke.
