Chennai, Sept 23 (BPNS)
The state of Tamil Nadu will be holding a mega vaccination camp on September 26, Sunday. This was announced by the state health minister, Ma Subramanian on Thursday.
Buoyed by the success of the mega vaccination camps held on September 12 and September 19, the Tamil Nadu health department is going ahead with the third edition of the mega vaccination camp on September 26 . The minister said that the state will be inoculating 15 lakh people in the third edition of the mega vaccination camp.
The state health department said that while the target for the first mega vaccination camp on September 12 was to inoculate 20 lakh people, a total of 21.98 lakh people were vaccinated in 40000 centres across the state.
On September 19, the state set a target of 15 lakh people but the total turned out to be 16.43 lakh people. The state is expecting more people in the third edition of the mega vaccination camp, the minister said.
The state Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin has already written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allocate 50 lakh vaccines a week for the state of Tamil Nadu to conduct mega vaccination camps. The Chief Minister in his letter stated that the state would complete a minimum of one dose of vaccine to its entire population if the union government allocates 50 lakh doses every week.
State health minister Ma Subramanian has also said that the state health department has the infrastructure to vaccinate a minimum of 6 lakh people a day and that the 50 lakh vaccines a week would easily help the state reach its self-set target to inoculate the entire population with one dose of vaccine by October end.
Ma Subramanian while speaking to BPNS said, “We will be vaccinating a minimum of 15 lakh people across the state through the third mega vaccination camp. As I have said earlier, the state has the infrastructure to vaccinate 6 lakh people a day. The mega vaccination camps are helping the state health department to reach its target much earlier and we are expecting the central government to provide us 50 lakh doses of vaccine a week so that we complete the inoculation of the entire population with a minimum of a single dose of the vaccine by October end.”
