The Kerala High Court has served notice to the producers and makers of the Malayalam movie ‘Kurup’ that hit theaters on Friday, November 12.

Public interest litigation was filed by a Kochi native stating that the movie will infringe upon the privacy of the family of wanted Criminal Sukumara Kurup on whose life the movie is shot.

However, the Kerala High Court refused to stay the screening of the movie but served notices to the producers of the movie, Central government, state government, and Interpol.

Young Malayalam actor, Dulquer Salman plays the role of Sukumara Kurup in the movie. Sukumara Kurup, an NRI had murdered a film representative Chacko who was waiting for a late-night bus at Karuvatta in Alappuzha district, after giving him a lift in his ambassador car. Later the car was doused in petrol and Chacko’s body was also burnt. According to the police, the crime was committed to fake the death of Kurup to embezzle the insurance money of Rs 8 lakhs.

Chacko’s family had earlier served a legal notice to the movie but his son Jithin later said that he had seen the preview of the movie and that he had not found any scene that glorifies the criminal, Sukumara Kurup who had killed his father.

Jithin was in his mother’s womb when his father Chacko was killed by Sukumara Kurup along with his driver Ponnappan and brother-in-law Bhaskara Pillai. While both his accomplices were caught and served life terms, Sukumara Kurup was never caught since 1984 after committing the crime.

Meanwhile, the movie hit theaters across the globe with its morning show in all the theaters in Kerala a big hit with people thronging the theaters in large numbers.

Sudhir Menon, an ardent fan of Dulquer Salman after watching the movie at Palakkad told BPNS,” The movie is a super hit and Dulquer has lived the character of Sukumara Kurup. It’s a suspense movie and will not reveal the details.”

Indrajit Sukumaran, Shine Tom Chacko, Sunny Wein, Shobitha Dhulipala starred in the movie other than Dulquer Salman.
