A Class II student died after a school van that dropped him at his school ran over him while taking revers. The tragic incident occurred at Chennai’s Alwartirunagar on Monday morning.
The student of class II identified as Deekshith was a student of Sree Venkateshwara Matriculation School, Alwartirunagar, Chennai.
The van driver reversed the vehicle after dropping the student at the school and ran over the boy who was walking behind the van. The van was without an assistant which is mandatory according to the Tamil Nadu school education department rules.
School authorities immediately took the boy to the hospital but doctors told that he was brought dead. His parents were informed and the body of the child is shifted to the Royapetah Government Hospital for postmortem.
Valsaravakkam police informed IANS that there was a commotion in front of the school after the parents and relatives of the boy staged a protest stating that the school did not inform them immediately after the accident.
Police registered a case against the driver of the van, Poonkavanam under Section304(A) (Death caused due to negligent driving ) of IPC . The driver has been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
