Cops “Assault” media persons in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, May 1 (IANS)

The Kerala police on Sunday physically assaulted and took into custody the senior photographer of Malayala Manorama, Benny Paulose over the parking of his two-wheeler. Station house officer of the Vanchiyoor police station showered abuse on the press photographer when he questioned about the parking of his two-wheeler.

The press photographer said that he was forcibly lifted by the Station house officer, Dinal along with two policemen and dumped into the backside of the police jeep and took to Vanchiyoor police station.

The news camera of the photographer was also seized by the police and thrown into the police jeep.

When Trivandrum press club president Radhakrishnan and other office bearers of the club went to enquire about the incident, the Station house officer shouted and was arrogant.

Radhakrishnan while speaking to IANS said, “ The Station house office told me ‘I will do anything and everything. Who is there to question’. “

The Trivandrum Press Club president also said that he was forcibly pushed aside and tried to assault by the Station house officer who behaved arrogantly towards the press club office bearers.

Later  Benny Paulose complained that he was having pain in his hand and shoulder and only after media persons conducted a sit-in dharna in front of Vanchiyoor police station, senior police officers reached the spot and released the photographer.

Trivandrum Press Club president, M. Radhakrishnan, and Secretary H. Honey called upon the government to take legal action against the Station house officer.
